It's suited for high port density Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet aggregation in every part of the network, designed for high-performance in distribution, access, data center environments, as well as backbone layers and the server farm. The WS-C6513 offers high levels of resilience with its up to 12 available payload slots.

The WS-C6513 supports all products in the Catalyst 6500 Series: Flex WAN modules, Gigabit Ethernet Modules (with IEEE 802.3af PoE), Fast Ethernet modules, and supervisor engines. It also supports SPA Interface Processors, 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules, and Multi-Gigabit services modules including firewall, intrusion detection, VPN, content services, and SSL acceleration.

Cisco's Catalyst 6513 Firewall Security System consists of a 13-slot model providing integration between a Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 720, a Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Firewall Services Module (which provides 5 Gbps of firewall services), and 11 more open slots designed for further customization. The WS-C6513 Switch chassis enhances the architecture's performance.
